I recently got another 1991 318is and it needs a lot of body work and while I'm doing all of this I want to install a chip in it. My question is what is the best chip I can get for not too too much money and what's the performance impact of the chip. Thank you.

I'm new here also, but here's what I got.
There are two chips worth buying: Midnight tuning and Turner Motorsport. Both similarly priced, I have heard they make a pretty noticeable difference but that isn't saying a Whole lot for a stock m42. But definitely a good easy mod.
Midnight will retune if you decide to take it any further, but there's only so much *I* believe they can do without Having the actual car to dyno and test.
I don't know if that helps? I just ordered the Ostridge ecu and bought a tune from midnight so I can change it myself at some point. :P

Okay I'm going to look into those thanks for the help!

The Mark D chip is also highly recommended.

I like turner but i would be carefull! They sent me 3 different chips and couldn't get it to work with my DME ??? since im going stand alone (haltech) to accompany my engine build i just returned it for a full refund! I would go with Mark D, midnight is a close second but Mark has been around for a LONG time.
