Does a later model timing case with the slides instead of the gear work and fit directly onto the E30 block?
Hi everyone, I'm new here and I was hoping for a little feedback from people who have tried such things before. I am building an E30 M42 motor for a club/track car. I am using an E30 M42 block and an E36 M42 modified cylinder head. The timing case has a broken off deflection gear for the chain which seems to be a reasonably common issue.

Hi
By slides I think your referring to m44 timing case. Gear or wheel is m42. Yes the m44 timing case is interchangeable with m42 engine. Sometimes the wheel stuffs up, slide does not. But the oil pumps are different m44 is bigger.
Cheers

The m44 case requires CPS mounting modification. You want a timing case from 1995 318i,is,ti.

The later model timing case I have is from a post 9/1993 model M42 and has the crank sensor mount ............................may be a supersession ????? upgrade?????
