Post by: 318tiyt on April 05, 2014, 03:12:38 PM
Hi

I have heard that the M44 crank is poor and can not manage to get beatings,.  are there some here who know about it or have experience. ?

The m44 crank is fine. Just not as strong as m42 or m47.
Does increase stroke compared to m42.
Bearings are the same as m42. In fact same as m/s 50-52 as well.
If you are replacing bearings go 360 oil channel rather than oem 220.

The M44 crank being poor is mostly an internet rumor. There is no issue with running it as its plenty capable of the abuse most people give it (and more). I have seen pictures of the timing wheel coming off the rear counterweight, but I dont know the circumstances of that failure.

Okay, thanks for the reply.
The car is a 318TI it is used for pure motorsport. I run with an M42 now, but purchased a M44.         The plan was to install Rotrex kompresor on the engine and run at about 200 hp, so I was afraid the M44 crankshaft could not keep up.   :P
