Title: BBS Body Kit
Post by: DRTE30 on February 17, 2014, 09:47:24 PM
Howdy folks,

Around October I was browsing the local Craigslist for E30 parts and came across a listing from a guy in the Navy who had a 1991 325i that mysteriously quit running unexpectedly.  His original post was something around $1200 (in running condition), but after meeting him (nice guy) and seeing the car, I couldn't justify the costs for something non running irrespective of being in Hawaii (where things tend to get a premium).  I knew the car had potential whether I decided to get it running, or decided to part it out.  I conveyed my interests but told him I wouldn't give him more than $600.  I also told him if he could get it running and know with 100% certainty what the issue was, I'd be willing to pay a little bit more.

Time dragged on for about six weeks and I didn't hear anything back from him.  Around the first of December I got a call from him saying that his wife was sick and tired of dealing with the car and he was ordered to get rid of it and if I wanted it for $700 I could have it.  I told him no, $600 was my final offer; take it or leave it.  He agreed, we met up and did the paperwork and I towed it home.

Fast forward to current and the paperwork happens to be upside down on the car which he didn't tell me about.  After being notified by the DMV that it would be $300 in backed taxes to get it up to date, I decided it was better off to part out.  Though I must convey that the only reason why I bought this car was because it had a complete late model BBS kit on it and I wanted it whether I made it a DD or parted it out.

This kit is complete!  I mean complete; down to the brackets that hold the side skirts to the body.  From what I see, some people love this kit; some people hate it, but to me this kit is the bastard child and either you like it or you don't- like the Zender testarossa kits.  I like it.  Anyhow, there seems to be a bit of mystique about this kit and I thought I would share a few pictures as well as the complete part list from BBS lifted straight off each piece.

Front Bumper:  21-12-017
Rear Bumper:   21-12-018

L Front Fender: 21-23-001
L Door:            21-23-003
L Rear Fender:  21-23-013
L Side Skirt:     21-22-037

R Front Fender: 21-23-002
R Door:             21-23-004
R Rear Fender:  21-23-014
R Side Skirt:     21-22-038

What I do not have part numbers on are the hangers that the top of the side skirts rest on (see photo with thin white plastic strip laying next to side skirt).  These hangers run the under side of the body from jack point to jack point where the upper lip of the side skirt affixes to.  Lastly, I do not have the part numbers for the rubber brackets that affix the bottom & inner portion of the side skirt to the unibody/undercarriage.  Stoked!  Eat your heart out M-Technic lovers  8) Now I just need some 16" 3-piece RS's...
