Title: M60, M62, and S62 Heads on a M42, or M44 Block
Post by: Beeker1972 on January 19, 2014, 12:05:38 AM
Hello Everyone,

Being this is my first post on the site, and I have no idea if someone has asked following question.

Does right heads from any BMW V8 engines fit on M42 or M44 Blocks?

I guess I either posted a stupid question or nobody knows the answer ... oh well I guess I will go to a salvage yard in my area pull heads from some M42s, and M60s see if they match, or look at pics on google images see if there's differences.

Love teh googlez- makes research really easy, doesn't it?

Just wondering, why were you curious? M42 heads are still pretty common.

I want to see what fits and what doesn't from other engine families in the BMW lineup.

A lot of guys here have swapped in the M47 diesel crank and M3 components like S50/52 pistons & rods. I've heard that the S50 TBs, cam trays and solid lifters will work with mods as well.

Been into BMWs for a long time, but new to the M42 ... Bought a White 91 318i 4 door with a 5 speed manual a couple of weeks ago.  So far it's running good.  I have done some research that M42s, and M10s is the way to go to tune BMW fourbangers.  My favorite is still the old tried and true M30 family.  When I was little I do remember seeing a M10 with side drafts, headers, and 300 degree Alpina cam in a 2002 loping like a v8, and revving like a motorcycle engine to 8k.
