I made a custom billiard ball shift knob for our project E30. It looks and feels awesome. It there is enough interest, I'll make a small batch of these. You can catch all the details here:

Nice job! How tight is the fit? Set screws to hold it on the shaft? Would beat the plastic tab on the Febi knob.

The fit is tight enough that there isn't any discernible play in it. There are no set screws that hold it to the shaft. I've had bad experiences with set screws for shift knobs, because the vibration would always back the set screws out no matter how firmly I torqued them. The knob just pops on and off like the factory knob does.
