Title: Switching Gears, Engine stumbles/stutters. makes low pitch bellowing noise
Post by: 92BMW318is on June 08, 2013, 04:36:15 PM
Some of you might remember I bought another 92BMW318is, this one leaks a little antifreeze. When I bought it I picked it up from a towing company that told me it wouldn't start, and it has been sitting there for around 6 months. So I had it Towed to my house and checked all the fluids there was really no antifreeze and there was too much oil (oil did not appear milky). I drained the oil and put antifreeze into it, turned it over and it started right up. Soo, now I have to get it e-checked.

But when I go to accelerate it stutters and doesn't want to go, until I give it more gas then it should take to get to second gear, when in second gear it does the same, it stutters/stumbles and makes this bellowing noise for a second at a time.

-Only occurs when I switch gears and accelerate,
-Does it on every gear,
-Doesn't do it if I'm coasting with my foot slightly on the gas.
-Check engine light comes on when idling and goes off when i accelerate
-Stomp test says I need a new o2 sensor.

Any ideas?

Sounds like it might have been neglected.  I'd start with a basic tune up and see if that improves things.  How do the plugs look?

Have a spare AFM to swap? Assuming you have checkd for cracks in intake and vacuum lines?

AFM or fuel pump/filter. Are you still running the gas that was in it?

Getting a 1286 Knock Control Test Pulse
No longer getting a 02 sensor code.
I switched out the timing case sensor,
Changed fuel filter.

The 1286 code is vague should i be worried about it

Don't worry about the 1286.  Even if the knock sensors are totally out it's not a big deal.  I'd be checking the intake pipes - cracked bellows, that sort of deal.  Is yours one of the DISA manifolds?  Maybe the flap in the manifold isn't working?
