The new M42club site does not have a 'recent topics', 'today's post' or "new post' button. I find I have to log in to view recent posts. which I'd rather not do. The old option was handy to keep and eye on anything coming in and I can sign in if I want to respond or otherwise. As it is, I might just drift away from the site.
If the mods/owner and put in a "new post' button, I promise to update my race engine thread.

At the top of the page on the right you will see "Recent Unread Topics" and "Updated Topics." Have you checked these out?

I'm sorry to hear about that. An overwhelming amount of spam forced us to upgrade the site. I'm not sure that SMF can do what you're requesting, but I'll look into it.
Why not stay logged in? We don't monitor anyone's activities here, unless you're posting them actively...the only analytics package we use is Google AdSense.
