Greetings,
One of the items I picked up for myself while in Germany last summer was a 318is (or what I assume is one) gauge cluster. Today I have half of my dash torn apart in an attempt to get this cluster in as well as some new stereo stuff that I'm doing at the same time.
Anyhow, my question lies in an obvious visual difference in the clusters. The US spec cluster has that little light blue clip-in module at the bottom right corner, yet the German version doesn't have this. Before I go any further and cause a huge headache, I am curious if that blue thing makes a difference at all, or if the whole swap is completely useless.
Off hand, there are several possible solutions:
1) Swap the German cluster straight into the car
2) Switch the front part (with blue module) to the gauge cluster part of the German one
3) Switch the actual gauges out of the German cluster and install into US cluster
4) Switch the faces of the gauges out of the German cluster and install into US cluster
Side note: This German cluster has a minty fresh SI board with good batteries!
I don't NEED to have my gauges in km and liters, but I think it would be fun, so I would like it to work if at all possible. Thanks for any help.
