I have a 298,000km M42 motor out of my 91 318is.

This motor is still running and functioning perfectly. The reason I pulled it was because my starter is toast, the clutch is almost done and there was a camshaft seal oil leak. It was cheaper for me to source another motor with lower kms, working accessories and a better clutch, and re and re it than to fix all the parts on my current one.

I have plans to put it in my buddies 318 dirt oval race car if it doesnt sell, as his oil pan imploded and wrecked the engine. Im that confident that this engine can still redline in 2nd while racing it, i took lots of care with this engine while in my car for the last 100,000km i owned it.

Its located in Richmond, just near the Vancouver Airport at my mechanic until monday, then i plan to bring it home to Whistler where it will sit in my garage until sold.

While the engine is out, it needs a (newer) starter, and you can have the opportunity to do the front and rear cam seals, probably the valve cover and timing case seals easy in a day. bolt a (newer) clutch and your good to go. This car still has lots of go.

Sorry no pics until i pick the car up this week.
