I have a white 91 318is. i was woundering if i could get some input on some of the things i plan to do in stage one ( if you will ) on my plan.
i'v been looking at a t3/ t4 turbo kit. I been looking at kits and forums and i feel like that my best option. 42lb injectors. on the stock rail or aftermarket rail i haven't decided. and upgraded fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator. I wanted to change my ecu with something tunable. so if anyone has any input of this please comment.

DMS has plug-n-play megasquirt. Where exactly are these kits your looking at?
-
just on ebay. like turbo and inter cooler kits
-
its says the megasquirt is compatible with the m20
-
What manifold are you using? As far as i know there is no e30 m42 turbo kit
-
i was gonna make one. i was gonna take and old m42 manifold cut it up and weld a knew one together.
-
An if u look around they sell m42 manifolds but there 200 +
-
The m42 manifolds are cast and weldable but I would start with nice clean alumium sheet.
-
I found a guy who makes them. But he was 575 just for the Manifold I rather give it shot myself first.
And u would us aluminum to make the whole manifold ?
-
If you can't afford $200 for a manifold, you cant afford to go turbo. Well, you can, but it will be cheap and unreliable. You get what you pay for.
Seriously, if you skimp, it will bite you.
Start off getting the car on a management system. Once thats solid, start looking at hardware.
-
The smart thing to do would probably be see how well the cast alum welds up, use a product like Protex or another alum cleaner to get it as clean as possible. It would save a lot of fab time BUT fighting dirty alum is bad and a big time waster, if any trouble then start with clean sheet. Do you have a water cooled TIG machine?

No. Cheapest I know of is the OBX ebay manifold. You also get what you pay for there.
My point was, if you are trying to get the cheapest of everything, your car is going to suck.
Figure out how to control fuel and spark first...
