Cool site! Nice to know there are some 4 cylinder BMW lovers out there.
What you think of my car?

Nice ride dude! Love the color!

Very nice. Clean, unbeaten 4 door M42 cars are impossibly hard to find!

Where about in CA?
Welcome! Enjoy your stay :)

I had no idea!
-
My rims are 16's, but we had to put spacers on them to make them fit right. Fine with me though because it widened up the stance a couple of inches.
I'm from the Bay Area.
-
New pictures...
-
Not seeing them. Just me or is this the case for others?
-
They are on the original post. One of them has decided to not work, so I need to fix it.
-
I like the placement of the k&n sticker!
-
Is the linked track picture of Thunderhill?
-
I like the placement of the k&n sticker!
LOL, I just took that sticker off today, I left my Grassroots mag and NASA sticker(it is on the other side, I haven't gotten another yet) on though.
Is the linked track picture of Thunderhill?
Yeah it is, that picture was taken on Nov. 11 when I did my first HPDE with NASA. It was SO MUCH FUN!!! You ever driven there BrandC?
-

I drove on Sept. 1st, you can check GotBlueMilk.com and check the event. I was #318 in novice. Yes it is fucking fun driving at T-hill.

Yeah it is, especially at the top of the hill when you can't see the track. My first lap I literally sat up in my seat to try and see the track. After that though it was just a matter of trusting that the track would be there.
I missed the signup for HPDE 1 for Infineon next month, so I am going to try and go to Thunderhill in March.
-
I used to live in the bay too, but moved to Oregon and going to school up here now too. Thunderhill is about 4 hours south, I've checked it out but never had a car to run. Looks fun! How much do i need to save?
Love the car, looking clean and the GRM sticker tops it off.
-
BrandC, I checked out your car at gotbluemilk.com Very nice, did you order any prints? Were you doing an open track or how did you get out there?
///Motorsports- I am a NASA member so I do the HPDE's through them. I believe it cost $49.99 to join NASA(Grassroots mag subscription included) and then $153 for the HPDE 1. It was worth it, definately was a lot of fun. By the way, what school are you going to? You wouldn't happen to be a Duck would you?
-
NASA runs terrible HPDE's. They are very unorganized since they are a huge organization that is focused more on road racing/auto-x than educating better drivers.
I go with an independent run group called TEAM Racing, it is a Spec Miata group. Bonnie Weatherwax (yes, a female road racer) is a Spec racer who offers excellent track days. Sometimes she offers trackdays as low as $110, in fact a few are coming up this season. I had great instructors and experiences with TEAM.
-
The HPDE I did with NASA was awesome. I was very happy with it...

Sprayed with Krylon Semi-Flat. How did it turn out? I like it personally, now I just need the clear turn signals and an iS lip.
-
Looks great but curious as to why you masked the car rather than removing them.
-
I love your taste man, everything about your car is exactly how I would want my car. The plans for the iS lip and clear signals is going to look great, love it!
-

love the look, the semi flat looks good. just curious, but why didnt you just remove the fog fillers to paint them? also, i think a 325is oil cooler lower grill piece would look sweet with the black fog fillers, just my 2 cents.
-
Looks good! Why didn't you just take the covers and ducts out to paint?
-
I couldn't get them out...plus I don't have an 8MM socket. LOL, whatever, they're painted.
Oh yeah, I also need euro grills.
-
Sprayed with Krylon Semi-Flat. How did it turn out?
It will look good for a few months until you get rock chips and the white starts showing through.
-
lookin good:)
but why haven't you shadowlined your trim yet?
BTW
sorry i haven't gotten back to you about your friends transmission, just got back from a four day thing down in L.A.

No problem man, it's not really a priority right now. I haven't shadowlined yet becuase I have yet to buy the SEM trim paint and I need to have a full Saturday or Sunday before I want to tackle it. It will get done though.. :D

Installed today:
Clutch stop:

Did you make the clutch stop? I have the UUC and I love it with short shifter.
-
Did you make the clutch stop? I have the UUC and I love it with short shifter.
Yeah, cost me about 3 bucks.
-
hey i had the same idea to use some type of foam seal in there. and inbetween the is spoiler and valance, looks good!
SHADOWLINE YOUR TRIM DAMNIT!!!:D
btw know anybody with an extra m42 cylinder head lying around?
-
LOL, come out and help me do it! I don't want to bend the sills, and I don't have the paint. ;)
I'll do it eventually.

I really thought about this too when I first installed my Euro grills. I couldn't believe how much of a gap there was. Another thing you might want to do while you're at it is to take some ABS plastic sheet and emulate the Euro grill block off areas behind the grill for added aerodynamics(if there is any on our E30 models, haha). I've recently switched back to US grills using Kamei eyelids and did this same thing.

I am going to get Euro grills sometime. Right now I have other priorities for the car though.

Question on the clears. You know how there is a little lip on one sides of the lens. Is that supposed to serve a function?
-
Illumination purposes?
The lenses and plate filler both look wonderful. Have you considered painting or getting black screws for the mhw's?
-
LOL never considered it. THANKS A LOT NOW I AM!!!
;)
-
My blinkers are so much brighter now.
-
My blinkers are so much brighter now.
what bulbs did you use? I thought you were getting the smoked lenses? the plate filler looks good man!:)
-
I decided to get the clears because I don't have smoked headlights and I thought that these would match my smilies that I have yet to put in better. I didn't change the bulb...they aren't orange either so I guess I could get pulled over for that if a cop hasn't had his donuts.
Wil, on the top of the turn signal lenses there is a little lip, is that supposed to do anything?
-
take a picture of it, i know that the lenses are supposed to go on one way.
-
take a picture of it, i know that the lenses are supposed to go on one way.
Alright, I will tomorrow when I get home from school. Oh and by the way, I picked up some SEM trim paint. So maybe sometime you could come out here and help me shadowline and install my spoiler. :D :D
-
(http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/7117/photo242pc8.jpg)
It says FIFFT on the front on the side with no lip. If I put in the lenses so that FIFFT is readable and not upside down, the lip would be on the bottom. Is that right or does the lip go on the top?
-
the lip goes on the bottom, and when you put 'em on make sure you take off your old housings and clean them up with some soap and water, and take out the reflectors and polish 'em up real nice.
whenever you're feeling brave enough to spray that trim leme know.
-
What the fu????

-
SWEET!:D good job man.

Yeah, bought them off of ebay before I knew that there was a difference between the Depo's and the Hella's/Bosch's.
I like my i lip ;)

"is" lip or ban.. :D
+1 :)

What's wrong with the "i" lip?
-
What's wrong with the "i" lip?
nothing really, but an IS lip would look sweet.

Went and did a quick shoot of my '91 318i and my dad's '94 530iT. Here's the results.

My metallic black paint is in poor shape and now every time I see your car I'm seriously starting to think about painting it white.
-
Nice touring, oh, and the white cars decent too. :D One of the guys around me just converted his touring to 5spd manual.

This is sort of my plan now too since the po must have let all types of gravel, rock, dirt, bird poo, tree sap just sit and accumulate on top of the car. It looked like he brushed it all off with a broom.
-

Let me know how that goes. My dad's car would be way cooler if it was a manual. What engine does he have in his?
-
Looks great! Love the wheels on the E34. Of course, your 318i is nice too... ;)
There's a guy near me who has a 540iT 6-speed. I want one ;). Talk about the ultimate sleeper, especially if it had the Dinan (?) supercharger kit lol
-
I still think your car needs an Is front and rear spoiler, but it's still a hell of a lot cleaner than my car is now!:D
-

Yeah, i just painted my rear spoiler today. Painted my new euro grills too.

Edit: Where you been Wil?
-
I love your car, sometimes I wish I would have chosen a four-door to modify since its so much more of a sleeper than the two door with the rear-spoiler...
-
(http://img106.imageshack.us/img106/5919/1011606dj3.jpg)
-
Accessories FTW!
I'm going to paint my car white and its all your fault.
-
That just convinced me to paint my rear spoiler black. What kind of paint did you use? The paint on mine is all cracked because the spoiler is rubber :(
-
SEM trim paint. Best stuff straight up. Don't buy anything besides SEM, it will just be a waste of time.
http://www.sem.ws/where_to_buy.php then put in Indiana under the SEM supplier search.
-
Wow is your car parked close to the minivan. Beats parking it outside though... hehe
Question, how did you prepare the spoiler for the SEM paint? Mine is in dire need of a refinishing.
-
Yeah, i just painted my rear spoiler today. Painted my new euro grills too.
Edit: Where you been Wil?
I've been busy with the new job, I don't work for Lee myles anymore, now I work for cottman's transmissions, making more money and being a hell of a lot happier!
also some asshole smashed into my car 3 nights ago when it was parked overnight in my neighbor hood:mad:
Your car is looking sweet man!!

Light sanding of 400 grit sand paper, just a quickie so that you can see the scratches. Then rubbed it down with rubbing alcohol. Then sprayed it. Working pretty good so far.
Yeah, that's my mom's car. Sometimes I have a hard time getting out of the car because she is parked so far over. Pisses me off, but I don't want to park outside.
-

It is very fixable, but I don't know if I want to fix it AGAIN!! since I'm not too far off from having the red 318is ready to drive, I don't know what the hell I want to do with the 4 door:confused:

HID's... something my car is missing.
Man are they bright. What type?
-
Yeah, HID's are so much better than halogens. I am running 6000k bulbs.
-
Are they the ebay conversion type or what? Were they very difficult to install?
-
Yeah, $100 for the whole kit. Took me 30 minutes to install.

Please let us know in 1 or 2 years if it's still running. Generally the no name brands have ballast issues right around 1 year. I have talked to one of the main US distributors recently though and he has said their QA testing have improved significantly since the 1st generation versions. I think they are up to version 4. Because of this, I suspect you'll see more and more vendors selling no name HID kits with decent warranties in the near future.
If you don't mind spending a bit more for peace of mind, Apex Cone and their rebranded kits offer lifetime warranty.
Either way, HID kits have gotten pretty cheap over the years. I remember when I paid $500 back in the day.
-
The kit that I bought comes with a 14 month warranty.
-
4.10 LSD was installed in my car yesterday. I will report back on how sideways action is done soon.
BTW, did a mod go through and rename all the titles to the threads in this sub-forum to the name of the poster?

the factory ones on the new bimmers go 3 years tops....if your lucky . sometimes you get really lucky and they last a bit longer.....same story with honda, acura, infiniti, MBZ, porsche, land rover...etc.

Too true, my dad's infiniti FX35 needed whole new assemblies after a year and a half. i guess the ballasts aren't availible seperately...
-
Love the progress your car has made, it looks great. Still think an iS lip would do wonders though :)

werd^^^^ a semi gloss black one, to match the bumper trim.
-
Definately not going to be getting one. I like the i lip much better, and if I ever decide to spend the money on this car...I can go very very low.

If I went that low, I'd buy a skidplate too.
Will - sideways is so much easier to do now. I spun out in the rain the other day because I wasn't used to the LSD. Gave me a chuckle.

LOL i did the same thing. I was getting on the highway in some heavy Oregon rain and i was sideways almost the entire ramp, god i love LSD. Even the liquid kind right?

-
god i love LSD
lolz me too ;)
I was goin around a newly-build roundabout that was covered in dust the other day and figured I'd give it a bit of gas :). 2nd gear at 4k drifted once around the circle and right out the exit. I really wish I had a camera in the car...
BTW what rims are on the Delphin car in the pic? Not sure I've seen those before, but I like them.
-
Those are some stock 5 series rim. That car has an S50 + 5 lug setup.
500 posts...woot.
-
dang, that explains a lot. Talk about cheap, awesome rims :)
-
10/10 ;]

I'm new here, also have a white 4-door. Damn this car looks good. Really good.. it's my favourite car here
