Title: M3 Style Exhaust Systm
Post by: 5m1dy on August 30, 2012, 07:38:57 PM
Hi Guys,

Im looking at what options are available to upgrade the exhaust on my 318iS.

Cat-back systems are fine, though they are hard to get down in Aus, so I'm considering my options for a custom system.

The 318iS has 4-2-1 system, but I've noticed that the headers end with 2 pipes, and then are collected into one by the next piece.

I'm wondering if there would be any benefit in fabricating a system where the 2 pipes stay separate, the whole way through, and exit with a twin-pipe exhaust, like the M3 has / integrate an x-pipe.

Would there be any power gain to be had here, or do you think the reduced back pressure would ruin any low-end torque.

Perhaps something like this;

I just fit the E30M3 exhaust in my car. However I have an almost 2.1L stroker motor. I have a custom exhaust header that is slightly larger than stock which 666 Fab did and then I had my friend make up an interim piece that mated to the S14 system with a SuperSprint. Should be awesome!!

It can be done, you just need an awesome fabricator that knows his shyt:D

Cheers,
