Title: Cylinder head
Post by: ti_tony on August 30, 2012, 06:55:56 PM
Hi all, I have a m42 in a 318ti,  1995. Just had the head done and getting ready to reassemble. The oil check valve between #2 and #3 cylinder looks like it has a rubber seal flush with the block, does this sound right. Can't find a replacement in my new gasket kit. I went to the dealership and looked at the factory pic, couldn't tell from that so they ordered a new one, hasn't came in yet.

I have a question about the cam chain tensioner, my old one has the two little rings that hold it together until you get the plug in, the new one that I haven't bought yet m44, does it have a spring like the old style [m42] and how long does it take to pump up??  Thanks.

I don't have any firsthand experience with your questions, but I figured I'd bump you in case anyone knew.

My M42 tensioner needed to be retracted when I re-installed it last time.  I had pulled it out for some stupid reason I don't recall...but I then screwed it back in fully extended.  The chain immediately began to make a racket on start-up.  I'm guessing that it was due to some oil remaining in the tensioner body.  So I removed it again, compressed it with a vice, reinstalled it compressed & all was well.

Thanks for the reply, the part came in today. It's the spacer part
#bm11-11-1-739-185 spacer sleeve. I didn't notice a simalar thread posted by Abuseo, the e30 didn't have the check valve installed. Didn't think of that. I still have to order my tensioner and new hose and fittings under the intake.
