Will 16 inch rims produce harsh ride quality?

harsher then 14 inch for sure. Depends what you mean by harsh, some might think the J-Stock suspension is harsh...I don't, I find it the harsher the better :P Those look good...but that's not what I'd go for...though I'm sold to original Alpinas 16x7 and 16x8 :D

haha, well im not one to complain about a harsh ride.
i have bilstein heavy duties mated to h&r o.e. sports springs...the ride quality is pretty good but can be somewhat harsh over bumps.
alpina's are gorgeous

awesome rims. i really dont think the rim diameter is going to make a difference on the ride quality. the tires will. but not the diameter. i assume though that if your putting 16's on a brick then your gonna go with a 40 or 45 series at the most.

why not go with 15x8? They are lighter and the ride wont be as harsh with decent tires.
I have them on my car and absolutely love them!

I'm leaning towards a direct fitment...
don't get me wrong though, i think those look absolutely dope! I would rather ride on 15's here in NY.

2002manic where did you buy your slipstreams. I have them on my 85 MR2 in a 15" but they only 7" wide and 35 offset... I think.
The Slipstreams look better on an e30 than I thought they would.
I'm somewhat new to E30's and just north of you. I would like to see your car sometime.

I thought the trade of was well worth it. Good tires are all low profile it seems.

it was a custom size specified by a few E30 enthusiasts and myself. 18racing.com organized the group buy and they may have a few sets left. You should give them a call.

Yeah, I had a 74. I bought it with a seized engine and rebuilt it. At the time I new nothing more than how to change plugs and oil. I no longer have it. A college girl hit me and totaled it. I was in it 10k, claims adjusters suck! That car started my love afair with Bimmers. I will take a 25 year old BMW over most anything new. Amazing how my 318 feels like a slightly more modern 2002.
What color are your wheels steel grey?
Since I'm way OT as it is, aren't doing some autoX. I thought I saw you on the SCCA forums.

Yes, the wheels are steel grey. I ocasionally auto-x (maybe 5 events in a year) but what I really like is going to the track.

I found this place awhile ago when they did not have the wheel in this size. Not a bad price either. $550.00 Shipped.

It's good to see tires and wheels referenced as the starting point in selecting springs and shocks. In addition to slip angle, tires have a spring rate. 2 psi of air changes the way a 3600 pound NASCAR sedan handles. I run 17's with 40 series tires that have a stiff sidewall. I also have a lot softer springs than most. However, the car is very compliant and responsive and has minimal body roll with big bars.
You can tell the difference with your eyes closed (not recommended) whether it's a late model with low profile tires or an older car with 14"-15" wheels and stiff springs. As with all things subjective, it's a matter of preference.
I have learned the hard way ($) that, on the street, 17's do not work with anything over a 200# front spring. Shock valving requirements are also different. BMW now puts 18's on 3 series cars and econo-boxes come with 14's and 15's. A big wheel that is strong is also very expensive!
The nice thing about the Rota's is that they don't have 8 holes in them for two different lug patterns. A lot nicer look.

not yet, but I have a set of Hoosier RS04's in 225/45/15 that I used this past season on my kosei's that will go on the rotas.
Fender rolling will be required with a 225 section width Race tire.
A local guy used 225/50/15 Kumho V710's on these wheels for the last couple auto-x's this year and I rolled his fenders for him. The fronts fit with just a little rolling and the rears needed a little clearance on the inside (we just scraped off some undercoating and they stopped rubbing) as well as rolling.
The RS04's are great track tires once you learn to use them. They GRIP! But they are bit unforgiving.
The Toyo RA1 or Kumho Victoracer would both be a good compromise between all out traction and manners for track days.

Personally I think that 16x8 is the perfect size wheel for our cars. Im currently running 16x7.5 Borbet Type C's with 205 Gforce sports and the setup is great, but I think that extra inch and 225s would be the optimal setup.
The rota slipstream is an awesome wheel. I wanted in on the group buy that was organized but I would want just a straight silver rim and that wasnt an option. Stumbled upon my C's and Im pretty happy. Have a 5 lug setup just begging to get put in though so they have to go.

just got the new Grassroot Magazine. They absolutly Love Rota for having good wheels in many different sizes for very good prices. Let's hope Rota doesn't change things in the future. When I ordered mine they said they're thinking about doing a 15X7.5 for E30's in 2007
