Title: M42 Thrust Bearing

Hey guys,
I just got a 91 318i a few weeks ago. I've been reading about all the mechanical things to watch out for. Question is can this bearing be replaced without pulling the motor or crank?
And is it worth it to do it?
I still haven't checked the endplay so this could all be for nothing.

The thrust bearing is one of the main bearings. To replace it you need to remove the crank. Unfortunately, not the easiest DIY task.

I will try and remember to post up a picture from my rebuild so you can see what it looks like. Picture is worth a lot of words here!

Here's a few from a motor with 156k miles that I'll be refreshing. Crank play was in excess of 0.090" and tolerances are 0.003"-0.006".
