I need to update the diff in my DA-powered E36 M42 to a medium case unit as I have just broken a tooth on the CW/Pinion of the original small case LSD. I know the medium case will bolt in and the tailshaft and half-shafts will no longer fit but would appreciate advice on the parts needed.

Why not use an E30 medium case diff from a 325?
Also towing to the driveline section......

I believe the E36 differentials have different mounting. Its not as simple as a cover swap like it is between the older models.

As I know drive-shaft will fit, but for shure you will have to replace half-shafts. I am running this setup. My friend did this conversion for me and he told me that you can remove something from drive-shaft to shorten it a little.
