Title: Replacing valve cover gasket, will I need to purchase new "bolt seals"?
Post by: codyb on May 31, 2012, 11:40:42 PM
I am ordering the valve cover gasket set from Pelican. Do I really need to also purchase new bolt seals, or can I just reuse my existing ones?

Mine were totally hardened and worthless in my opinion.
I say pull them and see how they feel? If they are still rubbery, reuse them.
If they are so hard that it's difficult to flex, they will more than likely break in half. Replace them. Not being mean but it's not rocket science?! lol :)

You might get lucky, the kit may come with them?

If you are worried about their condition at all just stick them in the next parts order you place. I would imagine that replacement can wait until then. Tip, when replacing them, snip the old ones off of the bolts.

Soaking the new seals in very hot soapy water helps with the installation.
