Title: Power Steering (ATF) fluid replacement
Post by: M42_Jester on May 04, 2012, 11:02:49 PM
Just a quick question as to how much fluid to put in the power steering reservoir? I have accidentally cracked one of the hoses and am currently leaking ATF. So i need to replace that hose as well as the fluid and need to know how much to put in.

Cheers in advance,

Jester

There is a little level indicator on the reservoir cap. Fill it until it is around the top/max line on the indicator.

If you empty the system when replacing the hose, you will need to bleed out the air. Fill the reservoir, start the car and then turn the wheel lock-to-lock 5 or 6 times. This should push out some air. Then top-off the reservoir, turn the wheel lock-to-lock a few more times, top it off if needed and you are done. I think that one quart of ATF should be sufficient (I think that the PS system uses ATF, check the markings on the reservoir).
