I need help identifying a "left-over" part. I recently had to pull up the carpet to repair some rust on the passenger-side floor, and at the same time replace the heater core and valve on the driver side of our '91 318is. This all involved a fair amount of deconstruction, but now everything is reinstalled and looking great.
Except that I have this part left-over. It looks like the cover to some electrical connector. Now, I could have discovered a new e30 lightening trick, or I could have left off the cover of the flux capacitor, thereby initiating a rift in the space-time continuum when we start her back up. I can't find it in realoem. Can anyone help identify this part and avoid potential destruction to our universe?
Thanks in advance,
Ian

That's the lid to the anti-matter containment housing. You can't mix the matter and anti-matter cold, or you'll destroy the engines.
It looks like the cover to the bottom of the left or right air channels that are part of the heater core housing.
Realoem is your friend.

Note part #10:

Maybe it's the cover for e30's with the rear floor vents deleted? I'll have to look at mine, as all the earlier e30's I've deconstructed had that plastic channel under the front seats.

That's what it is. I just looked at the one I have and they're both there.

It looks like you guys are correct. It also looks like I'll be removing the center console again!
Thanks for your help

Without starting another thread: I'm in the process of an m42 head/timing rebuild and I have this leftover part:

Does this even look familiar at all to anyone?

I haven't done a rebuild myself, but I think that's part of a chain guide retainer. I've seen that part listed on a thread somewhere. IMHO those parts were redesigned, might not be required in the new setup.

It's part of the upper chain guide retainer/ bolt. The one that goes down the driver's side of the engine.

I feel like a jerk bumping this, because I thought I'd had it figured out however I can't find any pictures on the internet at all that include the same part.

Were you thinking #9? or #7?
I can't seem to fit them to any of those places where they'd even make sense.
