Hi guys i was stripping my e36 318is breaker today to do an ITB mockup ill get this car running with my setup before transferring to my touring project car. When it comes to engine management im a dab hand with VEMS ive used it many times over the years and had great success but im trying new things and i see lots of you chip and remap your DME forgive me if i use the term ECU it comes more naturally to me even though its the same thing. Question can this DME

Be remapped to suite my M42 ill be deleting all the poo valves etc ill be running,water temp sensor,air flow meter, tps, crank sens and maybe cam sensor if i still need it.injectors, coils and o2 sensor. can i use it like a standalone or has it limitations. my m42 will be stock with itbs fitted and de cat probably different injectors uprated fuel pump and adj fuel pressure regulator.

I dont think you can treat it like a standalone, as in to reasign outputs to drive different things. Most people have the chip retuned for fuel and ignition and maybe some other routines but all the sensors still exist anp play a part.

Anything can be done with the stock DME including boost ... it's a matter of disassemble of the machine code and learning routines

BMWCONNECT please explain some more thanks. I was trying to search this earlier and my searches seemed fruitless then i remembered "ostrich" :o so typed it as a search term and there you were. can i calibrate a toyota tps to work with this setup or will i have to fit the bmw tps to my toyota itbs. this is what i have lying about as im more toyota proficient. all my vems installs were on toyotas. thanks in advance for any advise im researching all posibilities re EMS for my E36 touring project.

Do you have a data sheet on the Toyota TPS? I would start with that first and compare with a BMW TPS . There is most certainly TPS voltage related maps in that DME. Cheers

Can you please tell us specifically what the Toyota ITB's are from and what you have to do to mount them? I believe there would be a great deal of interest in these.

These ITB'S are from a toyota AE111 4age blacktop 20v also found in a smaller size on the AE101 4age silvertop 20v i have plenty of these from building toyotas over the years ill draw up an adapter plate on autocad once i get a chance ill design it to accept the stock toyota inlet manifold and not the itbs direct so there will be no need for custom fuel rail. ill be doing a thread on my e36 316se touring build im still gathering parts and bimmer knowledge:-O ill also be utilising my toyota know how to come up with new ideas and solutions to some bmw problems as i progress since im a great problem solver :-)

Is the gasket in the second pic from between the head and lower intake on the
M42?
It would be ideal to use a map sensor based system to do away with the airflow meter. You may be able to maximize flow that way.
Do you have any of the Toyota ITB's available for purchase and do you have any plans to make up several adapter plates for sale?
Lastly, will the ITB's bolt up to any other Toyota engine?

ill get better value from the machine if i order in quantity so if the prototype is a success then yes ill make it available. there are adapters available to fit these itbs to the 4age 16v and to the 1uzfe(lexus v8) and probably to several more im sure. if your based in the usa there are toyota itbs aplenty stateside. i will run map sensor its what im used to doing or alpha n ill probably stick with vems as engine management. yes the gasket is for between the lower manifold and the cylinder head its a pity the m42 inlet ports are so big narrower inlet ports are proven to help gain torque.
