Title: M47 Stroked Race Engine & Secret Sauce
Post by: rob_e30 on February 17, 2012, 11:20:35 AM
We have not taken this step yet, but know it takes us less than an hour to remove the engine from our race car.  We have dyno sheets that prove this motor makes +330rwhp and here is the secret sauce many have asked for.

We expect to part this engine out, but will be selling in major chunks (complete short block, exhaust manifold, intake manifold, etc.)

This engine has less than 2 hours since new pistons, rings, bearings, turbo rebuild, injectors cleaned, etc.

The most interesting pieces:

M47 stroker crank with custom pistons (8.5:1 CR) 1.95L.  Includes crank scraper.  Crank nose has been machined with additional woodruff key. $1,500 plus shipping

Intake Manifold - this is a custom built intake manifold that increased top end HP and flattened out the torque curve.  This is a one of a kind part that uses the stock bottom runners and fuel injector bungs.  Also has threaded bungs for map sensor, IAC port, whatever you want to install.  Designed for and includes our customized Big Bore M20 throttle body.  The throttle body has been adapted to use a full range throttle position sensor (0-5V).  Final component is the custom fuel rail.  This E36 M42 fuel rail has a customized fuel pressure regulator integrated.  Professionally powder coated.  $750.00

RC Engineering 750cc (75lb) injectors (6 total)

666 Fab exhaust manifold

GT3071 BB Turbo.  Just rebuilt by Garrett at a cost of $800.  $800 plus shipping.

Intercooler, mount bracket, plumbing

Oil Cooler Cap

Waste Gate and BOV - Tial.  Waste gate includes multiple springs (make 11 psi to 18 psi) and a spare diaphragm to rebuild if necessary.

That turbo is a good price, especially for recently rebuilt!

How much do you want for the manifold?

We think we've priced everything fairly, and thank you for the note.  Are you asking about the intake or exhaust manifold?  I'd like to sell the exhaust with the waste gate and down pipe as it makes a nice set.  I'll get a pic up shortly.

The intake manifold is tempting. What's the volume? Inner diameter of the runner port?

Will it work well for a NA motor?

Free bump!

With the very short runners you give up low end torque, but gain at the high-end.  If you want the motor to rev and breath then it may be a good solution, but I'm not certain.

are you parting it out because you think it would bring more $$?  I would think someone might be interested in just buying the whole shebang.

Parting it out because we're going to salvage some parts from the head for our new project.  I also think that it's easier to sell in parts.  I'm not sure how many people are ready to drop $4K on an M42.

Next project M42 based or are you using the head components in a M5x motor? I assume the latter.

I agree there are very few buyers willing to shell the cost of the whole motor. Splitting things makes much more sense!

I guess the older I get, the more inclined I am to "pay for time" - You guys have no doubt spent countless hours setting this up.  If I was dead set on turbo'ing an M42, I'd probably just rather buy your whole setup - swapping dollars for hours.  Now come see me in 10 years or so when my kids want nothing to do with me, and I might be singing a different tune!  Oh if I just had hobby time!

We have interest in many of the components but have not closed any of these separate transactions.

If someone is interested in buying this whole setup send Rob a pm.

The time to act is now!!!

i was looking into swapping an s5X.. but was hesitant.. because i wanted to still run a 4 banger..  if you were serious at $4k.. that would've sucked because i'll be getting my tax refund shortly and i'm in a bit lazy to do research to be able to build a sick engine like that.

GL with the sale though!

Most of the engine is gone, but the heart of this project is the elusive M47 diesel crank from Europe.

The crank alone is $1,000 plus the machine work.
Custom pistons about $600
New Bearings $150
Machine work and assembly $500
Rods $100 (stock)
Crank scraper $100

You can have the entire thing, plus all the bottom end accessories (new alternator, oil filter housing, power steering pump, oil pump, timing covers, chain, sprockets, new guides for only $1,500.  Bolt a head on and you're good to go.  Could do a package deal with the 666Fab turbo manifold I suppose.

All of this has about 2 hours since the new pistons, bearings, etc.

The bottom end is ready to go with accessories.  The new alternator alone was $200 not to mention the machine work to get the crank, rods and pistons to work together.

The bottom end was recently rebuilt (this is the one mentioned above with the M47 crank and and custom low compression pistons).

This block is ready for your new M42 turbo build.  The engine only has about 2 hours of run time on it.

You can see at the top of this thread what kind of horsepower this engine is capable of.

Contact Rob if you are interested.
