Do I need to drain the oil from the car to do this? I think not but want to confirm.
Thanks
-
i drained mine when i did mine, btw replace the o-ring while your in there.
-
Do you mean the o-ring that seals the top of the filter basket? You don't have to drain the oil to change that o-ring. It's a bit messy, just be sure to top the car off later on.
If you mean the o-ring that seals the housing to the block...I'd definitely do that after draining the oil.

I'll be pulling the entire oil filter housing off. Replacing the Gasket, O-Ring and the Oil Pressure Switch.
Does the oil really sit up that high that it needs to be drained?
Thanks!
-
yes, housing to block o-ring.
-
You could probably do this without draining the oil but it would probably be less messy if you did change the gasket/o-ring out during a normal oil change. But if you chose to try without draining, check the oil level after completion.
as mentioned in another thread about the housing.
O-ring 24mmx3mm (15/16ths x 1/8th)

Great. One more question, anyone know the torque value for the housing to block bolts?
-
Torque specs are 7.1 FtLbs/89 InLbs on the housing.
I just tightened the alt plate and bracket to what I thought was sufficient? I couldn't find specifics on them.
