What name brand parts are you DIY mechanics buying?

Autozone...Duralst lifetime cheap parts? Strictly OEM? Chinese crap? What?

Expensive --- Lemfoerder / AC Delco / Moog / Beck/Arnley / Bosch /
A1-Cardone / Karlyn-Sti /

Middle of the road---Meyle / Moog / Valeo / Pex / NAPA

Cheap--- URO Parts / Meyle / Duralast (Autozone brand) / O'Reilley


From where???

 Stealer / autohausAZ / Pelican / Rockauto / Bap-Geon / Bavarian / etc...

I try to buy the parts not made in China..I use Pelican, Roc auto, RM european, etc,  and just shop for the best price,  or a free shipping offer, or something along those lines.  I have had pretty good luck with the middle of the road stuff, pricewise

I'd add Turner Motorsports to your list. For me it's mostly OEM, middle to higher end of the road. Really it depends on what you plan to do with the car and how hard yor going to drive it.

My usual method is to buy cheap consumables, like motor oil.  But if the job is a royal PITA that I care not to repeat...it's the best I can buy.

As mentioned above, I try to avoid Chinese parts.
for the BMW and Porsche I buy from pelican or rockauto.
I've actually gone to the dealer for some of my parts?! The last one being a vacuum valve for the 944 where it was $26 from the dealer and online prices were actually more?
I bought my oem bmw coolant from the local dealer for $23/gallon. Not too bad really.

Buy my oil by the gallon at Walmart for all of my cars. Mobil1 Synthetics.

I try to buy OE BMW or OEM manufacturer brands. I avoid eBay like the plague, except for reference and the occasional used geegaw.

My parts sources include.

Elephant Motorsports, my autoX sponsor.

Also the Dealership! :eek:

Really. With a CCA discount and no shipping charges to pay, it works out about even with the online spots.

Pelican is an excellent online supplier as well.

I also buy OE BMW parts from RDAutosport, which is a pretty sweet hookup for a customers who know what they want and can generate their own part numbers.

I have one main rule for my parts buying.

If the supplier doesn't provide the name of a part's manufacturer with a parts listing, I do not order from them.

I always go with the OE brand and if not, you can do research and see what other companies supplied BMW during that perioud and buy from that company seperately for usually a little less

Depends what i'm replacing.  For brakes/steering & suspension stuff: Brembo & Lemforder/OE.  For engine stuff I will now stick with BMW gaskets/parts.  For sensors and whatnot, I will try Blunttech first and see what brands he has before I go to Pelican.  Blunt has better prices and service.  For oil, it's Castrol GTX 10w-30(winter) and 15w/40(summer) with Mahle filters.  I considered switching to Synthetic but it's too expensive here in Germany for me.

For the most part, I will go to the dealer for little stuff. The parts stores by me, even the good ones, are useless & expensive.  I would rather get raped by BMW, they use lube.  I usually get 10% off, 15% if I order alot.

Usually OE where possible on the E30. The Chevy gets all the off-brand stuff so long as I can avoid things made in Mexico (I've had terrible luck; china crap at least doesn't fail immediately), but I honestly haven't had any problems there.

If you love your car, better go for the expensive brands because quality is tested. Why spend money on something not worth buying. Top brands that are best selling are also the brands that you should go after, because of the review/feedbacks are good. Bosch, ac delco, a1 cardone, replacement, kyb brands. They've been in the auto industry for quite long.
