Title: Heater Problem
Post by: Rasta on January 30, 2012, 02:41:43 PM
The heater on my '91 318is is not working. I have tried many things but still dont work. New thermostat, new additional thermostat (the one on the heater core hose), bleed the system, etc. I finnaly unhooked the hoses that got into the heater core, upper and lower, and there is water flowing though the lower one, which is the one with the additional thermostat, but no water come out of the heater core, which should be the upper one. Any Ideas?

Yes. The heater control valve was stuck in the closed position. It has been so long since the heater has worked that the seal inside the valve was dried and baked in the closed position blocking the flow of water. Any idea where or who has a used one to sell?

You could try a post on the WTB thread.  you may want to price one at Pelican or RM European, a new valve may not be a fortune.

Any e30 valve will work, but there were two types used.  I'd call a few salvage yards or check out Ebay.

Can you provide more information about this additional thermostat on the heater core hose?
