Title: what happens when the CEL light dies?

After my e36 m42 to e30 swap, apparently my CEL light died.  now, the light next to it... green with opposite arrows <--> took it's place because i did a stomp test and got that dreaded 1215 code

weird or engineered that way or something went wrong during swap?

anybody?  Maybe just a gremlin, because before the swap, it worked fine!?!
