Title: AC and Recirc Lights
Post by: tfrain on January 29, 2012, 12:33:17 AM
I recently bought a used but workin AC/Recirc switch.  On my old one, the recirc wouldn't stick in, but I could hear the motor for the damper.

Anywho,

Are the Blue AC  Snowflake and Yellow recirculate buttons supposed to light up dim blue and dim yellow when the cars lights are on, and then get BRIGHTER when they are turned on (sorta like the defrost switch) or are they supposed to be off unless you push them.  Just want to make sure I got a good part as they are not lit up at all until you push the buttons.

One more thing.  I hear the recirc damper moving, but in this car, the air doesn't get any more forceful on recirc like it does in my Hondas and Toyota.  How can I confirm nothing is buggered up on the recirc damper?
Thanks,
Tom

Only the hazard button is illuminated (dimly) when your lights are on.  The recirculate and snowflake button are not illuminated until they are depressed.

When the recirculate button is depressed the fan will enage at its lowest speed.

That's right...no light until they're active.  IIRC my defrost switch as well as the hazard switch lights up dimly with the parking lights as well.

The fan speed doesn't change on recirc, but with the outer flaps closed it'll just be noisier at any given speed.  Might be that it's all working properly; that system rarely fails.  The little felt seals on the flaps might be worn - you'll likely need to pull the dash to fix them though.

My defrost and hazard are dimly lit and brighter when depressed.  Figured the AC would be the same.  Thx for the info.

And in my civic for instance the fan speed doesn't change but the air is Def. More forceful when on recirc.  I've also noticed on this car that pushing recirc to close off the outside vents to prevent that little bit of cool air that comes in when the fan is completely off doesn't seem to work.  I hope that makes sense.  Probably the foam seals like you said.  But im not pulling the dash! :)
