Unscrew the door lock pin.
Unscrew the arm rest and door pull.  I think it's two screws.  Here's a diagram. (http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=BA73&mospid=47325&btnr=51_1384&hg=51&fg=50)
Slide the door release handle bezel forward
Pull a lower corner of the door card away from the door firmly (but not abruptly) until the plastic clip releases.  Work your way around the door until the bottom and sides can pull away from the frame.  I think there are six clips in all.  You might need a spare clip or two - they're cheap (if they pull part of the door card out, repair it with carpenter's yellow wood glue).
Finally, lift the entire panel straight up to release it - the top of the door card and inner window seal fits into clips beside the window.
