Hi, I need some help, I just installed a used m42 in my car, and on the first start the engine started to rev higher and higher so I cut the engine at 4000 rpm. It gave me the error code 1271 which is ignition coil pack which doesn't make any sense, any idea what this could be?
thanks for the help!

I cant explain this code but check that the throttle cable housing hasnt pulled back out of the recess that holds it in place behind of the throttle cable adjustment nut.

+1 on that, the throttle cable pulls out of the ferrule. BMW issued a recall for that.
If not, check that the TB is closing & test the AFM for proper resistance & function. Maybe see if the cam/crank sensors are swapped.

hey thanks, it was the throttle body that was jammed open, car is finally running now!
