Title: Mess under intake
Post by: cncmastr on October 23, 2011, 07:23:13 AM
Hi Guys,

I started to tackle this and I am trying to remove the lower intake manifold but the fuel rail is still connected. I did NOT de-pressurize the fuel system and something tells me that I won't get this apart until I do. The problem is I cant start the engine with the upper intake disconnected and some of the vacuum hoses and coolant hoses apart, that will not only make a mess but I am sure is not good to run with all of this stuff apart.

Question: Is there any other way to de-pressurize the system?

Or do I have to go put everything back together, de-pressurize and then start over?

JP

It'll leak, but just yank the fuel feed and return lines.  You don't need to depressurize it.

Just be aware that the excess fuel will drip down near the starter and other electrical components. So, I suggest disconnecting the battery, putting some rags under where it will leak and disconnecting the lines.  The total amount of fuel that leaked out on me when I used this method was under 1/8 cup.

Thanks guys for your help! Once I de-pressurize it, the injectors will come out right?

they are clipped in at the base, its pretty easy to see once you have it apart

No need to remove the injectors. Leave them in place( on their manifold) and unbolt the     2nd manifold that holds them in place, pull it up and out and then you have access to the vac hose mess under it.

search for ford mustang injectors if you dont know what i mean.
