Title: speaking of new keys

when i bought my car it came with a small silver key that says bmw so it original to the car , but it will not unlock the trunk or drivers door , only the passenger , is this the valet key , and if so will i have to get the standard keys from bmw?

No, the valet key can't open the trunk only.  Maybe the driver's lock was swapped?  Which one works in the ignition?

i can only unlock and lock the car from the passenger door not the trunk or the drivers door , it only came with one key and its a small silver one , i just assumed it was a valet key

so which key do you use to start the car...is this the only key you have or do you have another and this one is your back up??? theres another thread here about keys and could help you out a little more.. i have 2 sets of keys my newest one only opens the trunk and starts the car but cant unlock the doors but i have an alram so i hardly use the key and the other opens the doors and starts the car but doesnt open trunk... non are original but i did go to the dealership for a key code

never seen that key before but it looks pretty worn out... i had a key once before that was so worn out that i was able to turn the car on and pull the key out with the ignition on... that was scary.. my best advice that i can give that solved my problem is to go to bmw and ask for a key code it should be free as mine was.. all you need is your registration and photo I.D.. then take that code to any qualified locksmith.. they will input that code in their machine and then you will have a new fresh cut key... i spent about 10 bucks for them to cut my key but i brought my own which was a switch blade style so other types may be cheaper

my key is huge and bulk its probably like .5mm wide
