Title: Timing chain and head removal

When removing the head is it possible to remove it with the cams and sprokets still in place? When I removed mine the other day we had to take one of the cam sprockets off in order to get the chain off and this doesn't seem right to me?

Can any one offer some advice?

I dont think the chain has enough play in it to pull over the cam gears.  The only other way to get it off would be to remove the crankshaft gear.  UGH.  

The easiest way is to set it to TDC, line up the timing marks, zip tie the chain to the sprockets and mark EXACTLY where the bolts are in relation to the slots.   Then remove the Camshaft gears/chain as a unit and pull it forward.

Don't forget to lock the cams.
