Title: Radio removal in 91 318i
Post by: 75BMW2002 on October 09, 2011, 01:40:27 PM
I am about to replace my OEM radio but not sure how the OEM radio is removed.  Do you remove it like modern radios (using a removal tool) or do you have to remove the dash plate around the AC contraol, OBC, radio, etc first? If so, how does tha dash plate come out?

Thanks

Found out - remove the tabs at the side of the radio and remove the torx screws and radio comes out.

They're not torx and they don't really come out.  They're a proprietary 5-sided internal screw latch.  You can use a smaller allen (hex) key to loosen them & slide the head unit out.  Make sure your new head unit isn't too heavy or meant for side mounting...there's nothing there to mount them on besides the HVAC faceplate.
