Title: Timing chain replacement
Post by: bflan2001 on September 24, 2011, 10:13:30 PM
How common is it for the crank sprocket and cam sprockets to wear out? I have everything needed to replace the chain, all guides, tensioner and oil pump rotor. but those last three sprockets are expensive. I won't be able to check them out for another two weeks, and if they are a common replacement during rebuilds I might just order them.

Crank wear is rare from what I've seen.  Cam gear wear is common.  You may want to replace the idler gear or bearing as well.  Those have a tendency to fail at high mileage as well.

thanks dave..i can't find a part number for the idler gear or bearing, could you link me to those parts?

i'm using the link below to put together a kit, i have everything there along with a few other items, but he doesn't mention the idler gear.
