So I recently got a 91 318is...almost the same car I sold a year ago and regretted..so i finally got myself back into one!
Except..this one does NOT have a sunroof..At first I thought wow that is rare, and liked the idea but its really a bummer not have a sunroof in a bimmer...I think a lot of the "experience" is lost without one...
So it was someone else who said, as a joke, "why not just have the roof cut off and swap for one with a sunroof in it...?"
Could it really be all the involved..? obviously not a diy but how long would it really take a shop to do..? a day?? Has anyone even thought of doing this or even better, had experience with this??
This could be something I'll really consider.. mainly because I got such a great example of a 318is...well under 200k on it, not a spot of rust..and not so much as a ding on the entire body..So I probably wont have any plans to sell this car.. but that sunroof delete is killing me..
Am I crazy? What do you think?

DO NOT CUT THE ROOF OFF A SLICK TOP 318is! Sell the car to someone who will appreciate it for what it is and buy one with a sunroof. Non-sunroof cars are rare.

Yeah that is true..quite rare...despite its rarity I don't suppose its worth much more than one with a sunroof ?..(still not considering selling it)

To KBB they may not be more valuable but to an enthusiast they are.

Seriously man, people buy slicktop skins and weld in panels and stuff just to make their E30 a slicktop. Enjoy the factory goodness or swap it out to someone who will enjoy it.
-
Please leave the sunroof-delete alone and buy a new 318iS if you have to have a sunroof. They're fairly rare (not to mention about 16 lbs lighter).

I hate the sun roof (rust portal).

Well, there's that, too.
