Title: have a squeak only way to fix is leave idler off

hi i have a squeak so i changed the idler and the tentioner and the alternator belt when i was at bmw breakers he only had m44 engined bmw 318is's and they had no idler pully's on them and he said his track car allso had no idler so i removed mine and it seems ok no squeak is it ok to leave it of and get a slightly smaller belt
