Title: Headlight Low-beam concerns
Post by: M42_Jester on August 20, 2011, 04:50:24 AM
Hey all,

Is there any reason in particular that the low-beam setting on the head lights would all of a sudden stop working?? i can't make any sense of it at all. the parkers work...as do the high-beams...but the low-beams just won't turn on...it's not the bulbs, as i have checked them with the high-beams...they work fine...i have also checked all the fuses and i have nothing blown...

if anyone can help me, that would be great. would be good to be able to drive at night u know...

Cheers,

Jester

how did you check them with the high beam? The low beam bulbs actually have dual filament, one for low and one for high. This means you can have a low beam not working and they turn on with you turn on the high beams.

The lights are on a relay as well.  The e36 might have a lighting control module as well, let me look into that & get back to you.

This looks promising, repairing a bad fender ground for the fix:

Low beam relay:

This thread notes an inline fuse that might be loose...not sure about that one:

The CCM is wired in parallel, so it can't be a cause.  Here's a fix for the "low beam failure" error message though:
