I just thought it was a funny coincidence that when this site went down, my car went down.

Holy shit man! At least it ended in the best and cheapest scenario. :)

What shop did you take it to and/or what shops do you use around Chitown? I'm taking my car into Renn-Art for some pre-winter maintenence that I can't do right now with the broken collar bone =( I know the guys on the Eurotechnic forums love that shop. Glad to hear it worked out ok in the end man.

Thanks. It could've been a lot worse.
As for shop, I usually do my own stuff but this year was the 1st time ever paying someone to do something in the past 15 years. I think it has to do with getting old, tired, and lazy.
Renn Art is pretty cool although I had to fix an install they did on my gf's car at the time.
I recommend Ben's Shop in Maywood. He is one of the most knowledgable people I know when it comes to E30 and 2002 models. He could basically build either car from the ground up without any manuals or reference.

Thanx for the tip. Interesting about Renn Art and the reinstall. I'm just having them do some maintenence stuff, they had a group deal posted on Eurotechnik and with the arm in a sling for a bit....
Seems like there are a few of us from these parts. We should get together sometime or head out to a Eurotechnik meet to represent the m42 club! I'm also a professional photographer, albeit without much experience shooting autos. I could be persuaded into a group photoshoot, and I might want to rent some killer portable strobes for the occasion. We could split the rental =] Too bad it's getting cold. Something to think about though.

This is very strang, I have seen this happen on a datsun onc. The head was planed incorectly which caused the head to bow and intern bent the cam. Over time the cam broke like yours. If you said the previous owner had the head removed I would wonder about that, But then again it could just be paranoia.

Shutter, check your pm. :)
As for the paranoia, I hope it's just that since the old owner just basically took a head from a salvaged car and just "slapped" it on this engine. I don't think he got any work done on the head.
