First and formost, i DO NOT want to make this thing loud, its loud as is with the OE bosal replacment system on it. However, i have been blessed with a wonderful 325is cut out in the rear apron and only have the pee shooter 318 exhaust sticking through.
So, my question is, has anyone replaced their muffler with a dual outlet muffler yet still used the single inlet 2.5" [2.5 right?] pipe. And if so, what was it, good bad, loud quiet, ect.
TIA EAD

did you do the apron job yourself?
those ebay mufflers... my friend bought one, if you cut the angled tips of they don't look bad. its a 2.5 inlet, dual 3 inch out. it sounds pretty good, i just put it on the end of my straight pipe to see what it would sound like. the only downside to them is they're pretty damn heavy. they're a straight through design (the dtm style ones), and the upside is they're not very expensive either.
i was looking at the magnaflow ones and they only offer a 2.25 inlet mufflers with dual tips...? whats the deal with that?

D is for donut. mmmmmmmmm donuts!

Is that a hole on the right side? Dual exhaust or rust/rot?
Maybe it'd be easier and better in the long run to just replace the rear apron?

Yes
No, it is a 325is chassis withg an M42 inplace of the shitty M20, no rust

If not for the 'Burn Tips' these might work well

I'd suggest going with a universal single in dual out or get a dual in dual out and have a "y" fabricated.
A trip to a trusty exhaust shop should get your pricing scale sorted out. Don't forget the longer and larger the muffler can, the quieter your sound gets. As I mentioned before, a trusty exhaust shop should be able to help you out.

Thankfully there is a lot of room for a large muffler under the ass of these crap boxes. My friend who should be on here at some point, has a muffler from a 318is floating around, so ill just run around with that and see what shops can help me.

may of found a good one, see part number 17755 below
Stock muffler is offset to the pass side, 2.25 inlet, tips are offset to the drivers side just like that. Case is 6.5 x 11 and 21 1/2 long, inlet to tip is 36"

I personally like Magnaflow and have one. The dynomites are equally good. I have heard one in person. My buddy has a 14"/20" on his and is BADASS but louder than mine.
Mine is 18"/24" overall and it's not LOUD but it's loud and sweet (to my ears and that of others)
Have them slap it on and see if you like it. Those dimension are really close to mine though so it will sound similar to mine. You stated you didn't want loud so I dunno....

id be the one doing the work, just would like to find something like that locally. Its a bit of work for just the look, but i have yet to find any *tasteful* tip that has a leach pipe [one inlet, two tips, one tip in line with the inlet, other tip offset to the side]
I made the exhaust on my dads e30 M3, mainly cause an OE muffler is very pricy. Two cherry bombs, shaddap!, side by side. Pretty quiet acually. Bad pic, but yeah

I've got the 17747 on mine. The 17755 is shorter and from my experience you will probably need to add a length of pipe from the exhisting pipe to the inlet. I had to use a couple of generic hangers in addition to the stock ones to keep the muffler tight. My tip had to be angled down a little bit because the muffler is tucked fairly well up under the car. IMO trying to make that dual outlet work may be too much of a PITA. FWIW I would use the single outlet muffler and buy or fabicate some sort of Y tip. It would be easier to do. FYI the sound is not too obnoxious. Not too loud at highway cruising speed.
Just my .02.
Good luck and keep us posted, Dan.

I have the magnaflow 11265. The fitment isn't 100% to my liking as the shop had to fab hangers for it and when driving the tip of the muffler makes contact with the valence. I'll be getting another one soon for the other car but I'll have my buddy who has a bimmer shop put in on.

How much is an average muffler? I've read they can be 50$ Is the source crazy?
