Title: Oil Filter Housing Leak
Post by: ClayW on June 27, 2011, 08:34:08 AM
I've recently developed a BP-sized oil leak at my oil filter housing. I've read the posts from owners that point out the O-ring as the likely culprit. I've ordered a new gasket, O-ring and even a new oil pressure switch.

Am I missing anything?

There is also an O-ring on the bolt that holds the cap on.  Normally when you buy a new filter, it will come with both.  I assume you are going to remove the housing from the block since you ordered a gasket.  Hopefully when you clean it up you can look for cracks in the aluminum housing.

I just did this and still have a little oil, but figure it is my pressure switch. I am waiting for it as the washer might be bad. But I was leaking a lot before and now just a little after swapping the oring and paper gasket. I used a little sealent swith gasket also for extra proctection. Do you have a small pool on the block behind the pressure switch? Also if the housing cap is leaking, then it is the oring as stated above that comes with the new filters.
