Hey guys,
Cleaning up the COP install, I removed the old coil packs and now want to remove the brackets. I have a dremel but want to do this right the first time. I will then smooth any imperfections. I will then primer and paint it after. I see what looks to be 2 rivets or spot welds on the brackets. Just wondering if anyone has ideas or have done it before. I have a book on body work so will be reading it over.

How a bought a Right angle grinder from Bracket side, get it off and finish it up smoothly. GL

What is that piece? I see pic is from harbor frieght.

How a bought a Right angle grinder from Bracket side, get it off and finish it up smoothly. GL
Do you mean to go after the rivets/spot welds with the grinder. I have to a take a closer look see how much of the brackets are welded to body.

Thanks, that is what I figured. Do you know if you use this tool you will get a hole on the chassis? If so, then need to fill it in. Just want to be sure I know all the angels before I attack this.

Yes Alex That is if you don't want extra holes on the chassis. If you don't care then any drill bit will work just fiend the center and drill how ever big of hole it takes to get it loose. GL

Yeah, don't want extra holes. Will look at grinder's now. Would a dremel work if you go at it slow? Going through a small amount of discs is cheaper than buying a grinder.
Thanks for all the feedback on this. Want to figure it out to try to tackle it this weekend.

I was just wondering if the weld cutter/drill tool pictured above is uses lightly, it would be enough to remove the bracket without putting a hole in the chassis. Not sure if anyone has used this tool before. The tool is under $10 with shipping. Still cheaper than a grinder. Worst case I get a grinder.

I saw Simon S's page on his m42 and he used a dremel and patience to get it off. I will try that first before purchasing a grinder. I have access to a cutter drill bit and would like to try it, just have to see it in person to see if it can remove some of the spot weld without make a hole. I wanted to try to save the bracket for the s14 guys but rather just get it off clean.

Alex,
..if you the spot weld tool pictured, it may create a pilot hole to get the bit centered. unless there is already a small hole that's covered up. Check to see if there is a spot weld bit without that 'thin pointer' in the middle, then you will be able to remove the spot weld, and get the bracket off cleanly.

^^^ Same but more manageable grate. Cut around the spot welds - Remove brackets finish grinding spot welds down, only as far as needed. GL
