Thanks in part to the guys on here that answered my odd questions, I got the M42 started in my 1600 this weekend. No exhaust yet, but I figured that I would share.

Man, what a cool little car. Would so love a 74 02, in white. My dad brought be home from the hospital after I was born in a cream color 02 back in 78, lol.

Congrats, she came out good. This reminds me I need to put a fan on mine. How did you wire up your fan? Looks like you used the factory switch but did you use both speeds? Did you put in a lower temp fan switch? Wait till you get an exhaust, these cars are an absolute blast to drive. I went Long tube header, 2.5" pipe to 2.5" resonator to 2" pipe to big can resonator on the back and it sounds quite for low speed cruising but comes to life when you get on her. Have fun!!!

I took it out for a test drive last night at midnight. The M42 just sings!
I had a 2002 equal length header welded to an M42 flange. I had to take it back to the welder for a modification and it barely squeezes in there, but it works really well. I'll probably get some header wrap to cover the welds and rust, but I like it.
As for the fan, I went with the 80/82C temp switch and wired it to the lower circuit. The plan is to wire the higher circuit to the future AC condenser fan relay as a back up, in the event that the AC isn't on but I need more cooling. I'll probably wire a switch to kick on the fan manually, just for peace of mind.

How did you wire up the fan? Did you use the signal as the ground for the relay or are you sending power through the switch? What terminals on the fan switch are you hooked up to? I think its time for a trip to the bone yard for an electric fan. I have a 12" but I dont think that will stand up to a sacramento summer.

Just read and enjoyed your blog. I applaud your dedication to the brand. It's a bummer that you didn't make it to The Vintage as planned, I'm sure you were very disappointed. For sure next year!
I recently picked up the little green 318ic and since it is going to be a daily driver, and I want to avoid EXACTLY what you just went through, I tore down the entire motor and refreshed it. I won't get too cocky though, I'm sure some other gremlin will come out to bite me.
Hopefully that new water pump solved the problem? Updates please!
Disregard, I see the other threads now.
