Where do I go from here.  Actually I am about to cut wires and install the elips, which I think are US and not euro.  Should I just buy a new set of elips and make the change later?

How about these?

I actually prefer the Euro OEMs.  Know of a good place to get them?

hmmm...I sold my euro ellips highs right after I bought the set.  I'm sure if you posted a WTB on r3v or e3t you could find some pretty quick.  Are you not sure if the lights or the wiring are US?  The euro lights have city lights in the top of the light.  You can see them in my sig pic.

The tops of mine have a vent (with a rubber tube connected) of some kind and the glass has the aiming tips.  Also my old lights have the 3 prong connector and the elips have the 9006 and 9007 style clips.

Just get some US elipsoids and put in some good (Narva) bulbs.

I would install the euro ellips, and post a WTB for the highbeams on R3v... there are a bunch of US servicemen in germany who get E30 parts and will ship them to you...

they also show up on ebay periodically... what's nice is the highbeams are universal, so you don't have to worry about buying them in england (UK cars have the lobeam cutoff plate reversed from ours)

edit: if you have US ellips, I highly recommend the hitachi (GE) 9012/9011 HIR bulbs... incredibly bright.

well... a new set with wiring plugs is around $450 from abraham motorsports... I would try to hold out for another used set.

Most fussy types like me wound up cobbling together 1 good set from a couple 'eh' sets. I finally got tired of the various futzing around and bought new ones, but it is expensive.

I may have a used set of high beams at home (ellipses). Email me @ dbgrubbs@alltel.net if you're interested.

There is no need to cut harnesses.

On the connector, if you look at the side that goes against the bulb, next to each slot, is a thin slot. Slide a very small flathead screwdriver into that, and the metal clip will slide out.

Do both sides, they are the connector you need. Try to remember which wire went to which side.
