Title: Feeler: M20 LW Flywheel & Clutch kit....etc
Post by: Warsteiner on April 07, 2011, 01:53:51 PM
Is anyone in need of a lightened (12-13lbs) M20 FW and clutch kit?

Is anyone in need of a stock M20 FW and clutch kit?

Is anyone in need of a M20 FW?

Or any of the above options with the M42 ring gear which makes it plug and play?

Cheers,
~Ralph

How does the lightened one behave on the street? I have been running a stock M20 one for years, and it seems like anything lighter would be laborious in traffic. Not that it would stop me from using one...

The 13lb-er is friggin awesome man. No increased effort really. I have the 323i, M20 clutch, pressure plate and 325i TOB on mine now.

Engagement is nice, pick up is great, pretty sure the only difference you'll notice is the wider grin on your face!

Glad to have another m42 again btw:

I'll have to weigh the one in my car now when I change the engine over to the stroker.  It's very light and don't have any issues of chatter or pedal feel or engagement like dude8383 mentioned. it made all the difference in the world. The best bang for your buck mods without going crazy are the LW flywheel and a well tuned chip.

I was asking because I have some flywheels that could be lightened and balanced for a plug and play option. Wasn't sure if there was any interest in a stock weight of about 19lbs.

Cheers,
~Ralph

Ralph, you know I'm interested. Getting married next month, and a bathroom is due for some repairs from water damage, but I'm in for the whole package as soon as some budget is freed up.

Just chiming in to add my "hear hear" to dude's comments.  The 323i M20 flywheel, around 13lbs, is a no-brainer.  No bad habits at all, its great.  If I were to do it all over again, I'd go even lighter than that.

I have the JB racing flywheel (8lb) in my 318, and it drives wonderful. there is a bit of gear chatter, but i don't care.... does not make the car any harder to drive at all, and the motor spins up quite quickly. I live in Dallas and have to deal with traffic, and it's no problem.

Actually, I'm probably interested in another ltw m20 flywheel. Something around 13lbs would be great!
