Title: Broken seat back mechanism...
Post by: a930rocket on April 02, 2011, 09:05:10 PM
Looks like my lovely bride buggered up the drivers seat back mechanism. The seats are manual and the seat back no longer wants to lock in place. It feels and sounds like it's skipping on the gears on the drivers right side.

I'll pull the seat tomorrow and take a look at the mechanism. She pulled hard up on the lever and pushed hard on the seat back, so maybe something obvious is broken. Force is not always the answer I tell her.

I've done a search and got some good info, but wanted to see if anyone had some ideas where to start.

check the pivot point on the base.
Most of them go there.  The set base frame cracks through and pivot comes away.
It's easy enough to see with the seat out and upside down.

I think the only fix is for the base to be welded or replaced.

Hope this helps.

Just finished working on it. I cleaned the hinges, etc. with brake cleaner and lubed it all. Seems to be working for now, so maybe it was just 20 year old grease causing it to hang up?
