Title: Question on coolant hoses...
Post by: a930rocket on March 22, 2011, 04:17:36 PM
I'm replacing all the coolant and heater hoses because they look original and about to fall apart.

The small hose coming off the bottom left of the radiator to the plastic manifold is too small at the radiator end. It won't go over the radiator fitting. In fact, the outside diameter of the new one is the same inside diameter of the old one. Is it that tight of a fit or do I have the wrong hose? My other thought is the radiator has been swapped out at some point and the fitting is different.

Thoughts?

I think the OEM molded hose is flared at the radiator end.  I'll take a look at the car to be sure.  Wonder if it's some sort of mid-year change?

It's flared a little bit, but not near enough to fit on the radiator. As I mentioned, the outside diameter of the new hose is the same as the inside diameter of the new hose. I just don't see a way to stretch it that much.

Not sure why my last post went to the mod, but here it is again.

The hose is flared, but not near enough to fit. As I mentioned, the outside diameter of the old hose is the same as the inside diameter of the new one. I just see it stretching that much.

I've got a call into Pelican Parts to see what's going on.

Holy Cow! I can't believe the marathon of swapping out the hoses, etc. I should have removed the entire intake instead of just the top portion. It would have gone lot faster. Lesson learned.

Of course I get it all back together, fill it full of water and start it. I smell gas and see gas pouring out and a puddle under the car. I get under the car, look up and it's just pouring out. I take it all apart and one of the two short gas lines I replaced at the intake fuel rail split.

This time I took the entire intake off, cleaned it inside and out, and replaced the two short gas lines with new hose again. Maybe the first two pieces weren't fuel injection hose?

Anyway, I reassemble it, fill it full of water again, bleed it and all looks good. I'll take it for a spin tomorrow and there's still no problems, I drain it again and add coolant, etc.
