Anyone know if the timing chain Deflection Rail 11311739130 and Deflection wheel are interchangeable? Do they use one of the same bolt holes?
Thanks in advance,
Lee

/subscribed. I am interested in this as well. I have just asked about this on E30zone. There was some discussion that the m42 idler wheel is a weakness on the M42 and the M44 deflection rail is better design.
-
No, they do not interchange.

The later M42 used M44 rails but I believe you'd have to swap the lower timing case over to the newer style in order to use the M44 style components (ie deflection rail).

Thanks for all the input. Does anyone have pics of the two lower timing case covers for comparison?
monko141, have you tried adapting either one? I would really like to know if the mounting points are entirely different or if a mod could be made for interchangeablilty.
Thanks

The problem is the inner timing case is cast aluminum. The mounting points for the rail are just not there. Even if you could fab something up the oil sprayer for the chain is in a completely different location. That is why the lower engine gasket set comes with two different "block to timing case" gaskets.

Great info! Thanks for clarifying why the rail won't fit or work properly on the older case.
Cheers!
