Title: Deflection Rail 11311739130 and Deflection wheel interchangeability
Post by: Esprit Aviation on February 08, 2011, 07:07:13 AM: Anyone know if the timing chain Deflection Rail 11311739130 and Deflection wheel are interchangeable? Do they use one of the same bolt holes?

Post by: dsm2002 on February 08, 2011, 07:59:18 AM: /subscribed. I am interested in this as well. I have just asked about this on E30zone. There was some discussion that the m42 idler wheel is a weakness on the M42 and the M44 deflection rail is better design.

Post by: colin86325 on February 08, 2011, 12:37:31 PM: The later M42 used M44 rails but I believe you'd have to swap the lower timing case over to the newer style in order to use the M44 style components (ie deflection rail).

monko141, have you tried adapting either one? I would really like to know if the mounting points are entirely different or if a mod could be made for interchangeablilty.

Post by: monko141 on February 09, 2011, 05:22:35 PM: The problem is the inner timing case is cast aluminum. The mounting points for the rail are just not there. Even if you could fab something up the oil sprayer for the chain is in a completely different location. That is why the lower engine gasket set comes with two different "block to timing case" gaskets.
