Right now the head is being rebuilt, the head gasket popped due to us not replacing the fan clutch :mad:. So i took the head to the local machinist. the head is getting 4 new exhaust valves, all new exhaust valve guides, all new lifters and a valve job and resurfacing. They did find a crack in the head, between the large coolant channel and the rear exhaust valve in #2 cylinder, this has been professionally repaired. I have a new set of gaskets waiting for the return of the head, and will be putting everything back together.
What i might be parting with is the motor,transmission assembly. Everything that is attached to the motor. you get the JB flywheel and autosolutions shifter as well.
If i sell the motor i will be doing an S52 swap. hence the reason for me parting everything. the motor has a brand new starter and alternator on it as well, i do not know if i stated that in the build thread.
i will post pictures of the head, when i get it back if anyone is interested.
i would be interested what you guys would realistically be willing to pay for this, as i can not really judge the fair market value, due to lack of complete M42's for sale, i would guess i have about 2-3k into the M42 right now.
The motor has somewhere north of 120k miles, the refresh has 1200 miles on it. SC to dallas drive.. Drove great the whole way to Dallas.

my guesstimate no more than 4 or 5 hundred sadly its like rebuilding an m10 and hoping to get a grand out it

Yeah, i know these motors aren't very desirable motors.... if i do sell, it will be more worth my while to part it out..
Brand new starter, alternator, JB flywheel. those things alone should bring close to or over 500$. clutch with 1200 miles on it. all new hoses, could sell that as a full "kit"
as well as the timing guides, and cam gears.
Oh well, i will just keep the M42 in the car for a while, and get some use out of it, rather than loosing my pants on it.

I would just keep it in the car and drive it. It might not have the straight six power but the balance is better (about 100 lbs less in the nose). Plus you've kept this build somewhat an OEM plus affair so far.
How did you manage to blow the headgasket with a fan clutch failure? I wouldn't imagine that engine temps would instantaneously soar with a fan failure...especially if the temps are not summer time temps.

The fan clutch is my best guess. i was sitting in Arby's drive though, and the temp pretty much soared... killed the motor let it sit for a little while...
Right now the car has a new fan clutch, and radiator.
I think i am going to keep it stock, the idea of an S52 was/is really nice. however i think i am just going to keep the M42.. the head is going to wind up costing about 1,000$.
I will probably just buy a swapped car in the future.

That sucks the motor let go after all that work!
