Title: 1st gear slippage...
Post by: steel330i on January 19, 2011, 12:51:05 AM: Ok so here's my question, if I'm at a stop sign, stop light, any intersection that requires me to come to a complete stop, I have to pull the car out of 1st and move it around a bit and then when it's time to move throw it back into 1st and then I can go...otherwise the tranny will throw itself out of gear and it looks/feels about the same as stalling out with the exception of the motor is still running so i have to re-engage into 1st gear and I just look like someone that can't drive a manual...any ideas? I know it's an OEM shifter and assembly from 1991 so bushings are most likely shot and I'm going to get the SSK from pelican soon, but other than replacing bushings any other ideas or could it be something more pressing? Thanks all!

Don't let this go! if its just shifter bushings youll eventually ruin the synchros if they are not bad!

Hopefully yours isn't as bad!

Did you fix this yourself, or take to a shop? Hard to do? Thanks for any and all info...

Post by: asubimmer on January 27, 2011, 02:59:56 PM: I replaced the transmission with another one. Its not really worth it to me to spend a couple thousand on a rebuilt transmission when you can get a used one for $2-300. Replacing the transmission is pretty easy, exp on a lift.
