Title: Aux. Thermostat Delete for M42 E30
Post by: esager on January 04, 2011, 02:46:54 PM
Hello

I have completed the replacement of all the rubber water hoses and plastic pipe to the side of the engine block as well as removing the "mess under the intake" on the M42. I've also replaced the thermostat, water pump and have a new radiator.

I am now beginning to put everything back together. I saw in a thread somewhere around here or R3V where the axillary thermostat in the upper heater hose into the firewall was simply deleted. I did the same but am now second-guessing myself. Before I tighten down the lower intake manifold bolts, I wanted to ask a larger audience.

Does anyone have any experience deleting this for a future daily driver? Doing a bit of internet searching, it seems it was installed after the fact for a recall, so I think it will work fine without it, but just thought I would ask. Thanks.

Hi again,

This thread should have been titled, "Heater Hose Check Valve Delete for M42 E30"

I have found a bit more information, in addition to what I already knew and have read from the various posts. Basically, it seems I can go without the recall-sourced valve if I want to, no big worries.

If anyone is interested, you can read a bit more below:

And finally, as we all know, the original two threads that got me interested in deleting the mess under the intake/TB heater:

Thanks all.

Now just need to cross my fingers for an easy radiator fill+bleed this weekend. New Behr radiator. Forgot a new radiator cap. Need to order from Pelican pronto!

The inline 6 engines have a smarter TB heater controlled by a thermostat placed in the air-filter box. This setup ensures that the TB is heated only when air temperature drops under a certain value.
